I was the product designer on Claps' engagement squad. I owned the betting experience end to end — bet slip, live betting, bonuses — and designed the gamification layer: missions, streaks and loyalty progression. Alongside feature work I maintained the design system and worked daily with engineers and the product team to ship weekly.
(01) — The Problem
Crypto bettors churn brutally fast: most users deposited, placed a handful of bets and never came back. The bet slip crammed singles, combos and live bets into one overloaded panel, and shifting odds invalidated decisions mid-flow. Bonus mechanics — the platform's main retention lever — were so opaque they generated more support tickets than repeat sessions. Two years of fast shipping had also eroded visual consistency on a product where trust directly affects deposits.
(02) — The Process
I started with funnel analytics and session recordings to find exactly where bets died — 60% of abandoned slips followed an odds change. I mapped every bet state, then rebuilt the slip around an explicit state model: inline odds-change confirmations, an accept-any-odds toggle and a slip that persists across the product. For retention, I designed a missions system with the product team, deliberately rewarding activity rather than spend, and prototyped reward loops weekly against community feedback.
(03) — The Solution
The redesigned bet slip makes every odds movement visible and recoverable instead of silently failing. The missions hub gives players a daily reason to return that isn't a marketing email. Bonus progress became a transparent, always-visible tracker with plain-language wagering terms. And consolidating the component library brought betting, casino and account surfaces back to one visual language.
(Outcome)
Within two quarters bet-slip completion rose 18% and odds-change errors dropped 42%. D7 retention improved 24%, with 38% of weekly actives engaging with missions. Bonus-related support tickets fell 35% while bonus opt-in grew 21%.
